Turns out the kid can do more than just hit.
Boston Red Sox rookie Andrew Benintendi has been swinging a hot bat since he was recalled from Double-A Portland in late July. But his prowess at the plate pales in comparison to the play he made in left field Monday night against the Tampa Bay Rays.
With a runner on first base in the eighth inning, Rays outfielder Scott Souza Jr. hit a deep fly to left field off starter David Price that appeared destined for the seats. That is, before Benintendi glided over and leaped to make one of the best catches you’ll see — ever.

Yeah, we’re going to need to see that one again.
Strangely enough, Benintendi started the game in center field and didn’t even switch to left field until the eighth. Chris Young started the game in left, but Jackie Bradley Jr. pinch ran for Young in the top of the eighth and took over in center, bumping the rookie to left field.
Turns out that was a pretty smart move, because Benintendi’s robbery, which helped the Red Sox earn a 6-2 win, is in the running for the best catch in Major League Baseball this season.
