The regular season still is a few weeks away, but things already aren’t looking so hot for the Buffalo Bills.
The Bills recently learned they’ll be without Marcell Dareus for the first four weeks, as the defensive tackle was suspended four games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy after reportedly failing a drug test.
It’s not the first time Dareus has had issues with substance abuse — he was suspended for one game in 2015, also after failing a drug test — and on Saturday, the 26-year-old announced he’ll enter a rehab facility.
“After careful consideration of recent events within my life, I have made the decision to enter a rehabilitation facility,” Dareus said in a statement, via NFL.com. “I feel this is the best decision for me, my family and my teammates as I move forward with my career. I appreciate the support of my teammates and the Bills organization through this process.”
Dareus made the Pro Bowl in 2013 and 2014 but had a disappointing 2015 campaign, tallying just two sacks for the 8-8 Bills.
“As a football team, as a family, we came together and we support Marcell Dareus 100 percent,” head coach Rex Ryan said Saturday, via NFL.com. “I’m excited about the young man trying to change his life.”
