Dad’s Chris Sale-Red Sox Joke Nearly Gives Bill Simmons A Heart Attack

The Major League Baseball non-waiver trade deadline came and went Monday, and Chris Sale remained a member of the Chicago White Sox despite various rumors surrounding the left-handed ace.

The Boston Red Sox were among the teams connected to Sale leading up to the deadline, and The Ringer’s Bill Simmons nearly hit the deck when his father pranked him via text message.

Simmons, of course, is a huge Boston sports fan, so he obviously has a strong opinion about the Red Sox’s reported pursuit of Sale. The 27-year-old hurler would give Boston a front-line starter capable of changing the complexion of the American League East, but the package joked about by Simmons’ dad — Yoan Moncada, Andrew Benintendi and Eduardo Rodriguez — would represent a huge price.
