Did Brock Lesnar Go Off-Script At WWE SummerSlam, Bloody Randy Orton On Purpose?

Brock Lesnar blurred the lines between reality and fiction Sunday night at WWE SummerSlam.

Lesnar, who has legitimately hurt people inside the octagon during his UFC career, might have done the same inside the squared circle during his WWE match with Randy Orton. At least that’s what people are wondering coming out of the biggest party of the summer at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The main event Sunday night ended when Lesnar left Orton in a pool of his own blood, giving The Beast Incarnate a TKO win. Photos taken after the match showed a huge gash on Orton’s forehead — it required 10 staples, according to WWE — so it’s likely The Viper really was busted wide open, especially since WWE has shied away from using blood in its presentation in recent years.

So, assuming Orton’s cut was for real, was it the product of an accidental blow? Or did Lesnar go off-script and injure his opponent on purpose?

The former seems more likely. Superstars often get hurt during matches despite wrestling being scripted, and Lesnar is a physical force. An unintentional elbow isn’t outside the realm of possibility. Nor is Lesnar bloodying the crap out of someone with one false move.

Either way, the Internet was buzzing after Lesnar’s vicious victory, which is a good thing for WWE following an otherwise lackluster pay-per-view event.
