Jimmy Garoppolo Doesn’t Know Why Tom Brady Is Excused From Practice

Tom Brady reportedly was excused from New England Patriots practice Sunday and Monday, and even his teammates don’t know why.

Backup quarterback — and Weeks 1 through 4 starter — Jimmy Garoppolo was asked Monday morning on WEEI’s “Dennis & Callahan with Minihane” where Brady has been.

“Your guess is as good as mine,” Garoppolo said. “It’s kind of like the game day, I thought he was going to start. … It’s just kind of how we roll around here though, you never know when your number is going to be called, you’ve always got to be ready, and it worked out pretty well.”

It’s been a strange summer for Brady, who missed the Patriots’ first preseason matchup to attend memorial services for a family member, and the team’s second game after accidentally cutting his thumb with scissors while trying to remove an object from his cleats. Now Brady, who hardly ever misses practice, won’t be at practice for two days straight.

Of course, it’s possible none of these events would have kept Brady out if he wasn’t suspended the first four games of the 2016 NFL season.
