And the winner of the Jimmy Vesey sweepstakes is … the New York Rangers.
The Rangers announced on Twitter on Friday evening that they agreed to terms with the highly coveted free agent.
The entry-level contract reportedly is for two years and is worth $925,000 per year, although he could earn up to $1.925 in performance bonuses, according to The Boston Globe.
The Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks were rumored to be among Vesey’s other options.
The former Harvard left winger and Massachusetts native originally was drafted by the Nashville Predators in 2012, but the two sides never agreed to a deal. The Predators then traded his rights to the Sabres, but Buffalo was unable to come to terms on a contract before he became an unrestricted free agent Tuesday.
Vesey won the Hobey Baker Award as the nation’s top college hockey player last season, as he recorded 24 goals and 22 assists in 33 games.
