Joey Bosa’s Mom Wishes Son ‘Pulled An Eli Manning’ To Avoid Chargers

Things are getting even uglier between Joey Bosa and the San Diego Chargers.

The Chargers selected Bosa with the No. 3 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, but the sides haven’t been able to come to terms on a contract yet.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday night that the sides really aren’t even close, saying there’s been no contact since July 28. As Schefter also points out, this is nothing new in San Diego, as players like Philip Rivers, LaDainian Tomlinson and Shawne Merriman also held out as rookies.

There’s another big name from Chargers draft lore who fits in very well in this situation, too, and that’s New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. The two-time Super Bowl winner and his family infamously forced the Chargers’ hand in 2004.

The Chargers owned the No. 1 pick and wanted to take Manning. However, Manning and his family made it known he didn’t want to go to San Diego, and the Chargers ultimately traded the No. 1 pick to the Giants, who selected Manning with the top overall pick.

Now, Bosa’s mother is wondering whether their camp should have taken the same approach.

Bosa’s mother, Cheryl, responded to a Facebook post from a user who was hopeful things would work out for Bosa and the Chargers.

Mama Bosa’s repsonse?

“It bums me out for him so much. Wish we pulled an Eli Manning on draft day,” she said, per a screen shot on SDBoltReport.com.

That’s pretty strong stuff. She has since deleted the post, but not before the internet took the story and ran with it … with no end in sight for the dispute between the sides.
