The narrative surrounding Kevin Love sure has changed.
Even as the Cleveland Cavaliers marched toward the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference this past season, speculation centered on whether they’d consider trading Love, either during the season or over the summer. The Cavs, of course, ended up winning the championship, defeating the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. And now, it sounds like Love will be around for the long haul.
Sources close to the Cavaliers recently told Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders that trading Love is “not even remotely a consideration” despite there being no shortage of suitors willing to absorb the veteran All-Star’s contract.
Love, who turns 28 in September, signed a five-year contract worth about $113 million last offseason. He’s not scheduled to hit free agency until after the 2019-20 season. Love often has seemed like an imperfect fit playing alongside LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, though, hence the trade chatter that took place basically up until Cleveland defeated Golden State in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
