Olympic Winner Justin Rose Trails Jason Day On Betting Odds to Win The Barclays

Justin Rose looks to follow up on his gold-medal victory at the 2016 Rio Olympics with his first PGA Tour win of the year when he tees off Thursday at +2200 odds to win The Barclays at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

The Barclays tournament at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York, marks the start of the FedExCup playoffs, which culminate at next month’s Tour Championship in Atlanta.

Rose enters the tournament well behind the leaders in the FedExCup standings in 51st place after cracking the top 10 just twice in the eight outings prior to his Olympic victory.

The Englishman’s best showing at The Barclays came three years ago when he finished in a four-way tie for second, one stroke behind winner Adam Scott. But Rose has finished well off the pace at The Barclays since, struggling to a 30th-place finish two years ago before a disastrous first round at last year’s event contributed to a 16th-place finish.

Jason Day won The Barclays in 2015 behind an impressive final-round 62, and he’s pegged as the +750 favorite to successfully defend his title this week. The No. 1 golfer on the Official World Golf Ranking skipped the Olympic golf tournament.

Day finished second in his last major outing at the PGA Championship and has three victories on the PGA Tour this year, including a win at the Players Championship, and enters The Barclays atop the FedExCup standings, 34 points ahead of Dustin Johnson.

Johnson, this year’s U.S. Open winner, also remains on Day’s heels on The Barclays betting odds at +900. He’s played some of the best golf of his career this season, finishing in the top five in nine of his past 14 outings, but struggled at the PGA Championship where he finished 9-over over two rounds to miss the cut for the first time this year.

Former No. 1 Rory McIlroy doesn’t have a PGA Tour victory this season, but rounds out the front of The Barclays pack at +1000 on the golf betting lines.

McIlroy claimed seven total wins in 2014 and 2015, including a pair of major victories, but has finished no higher than fourth in PGA Tour action this year and missed the cut at both the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship.

Olympic silver medalist and 2016 Open Championship winner Henrik Stenson follows at +1200 odds for this week, just ahead of Jordan Spieth at +1400, while Brooks Koepka, Hideki Matsuyama, and Phil Mickelson are deadlocked at +2800.
