The United States women’s volleyball team got off to a terrific Olympics start Saturday, defeating Puerto Rico in straight sets (25-17, 25-22, 25-17) in its opener in Rio de Janeiro.

The Americans probably could’ve played a bit better, particularly in the second set when they allowed Puerto Rico to linger, but they’ll take the victory and prepare for Monday’s contest with Netherlands.

“In general I think we are always using matches to learn,” U.S. captain Christa Dietzen told TeamUSA.org. “I think each match we are working to improve, and I think we did that tonight. Now we are preparing for Netherlands.”

Kelly Murphy (13 kills, block) and Kim Hill (12 kills, block, ace) led Team USA with 14 points each.
