Ray Evernham Was Skeptical Of Jeff Gordon’s Return To NASCAR At First

Ray Evernham and Jeff Gordon have a winning history, with the duo earning three championships in the 1990s. But when Hendrick Motorsports announced in July that Gordon would replace injured Dale Earnhardt Jr. behind the wheel, Evernham initially didn’t want to see the retired racer in the No. 88.

It took the former crew chief and NASCAR team owner some convincing before he concluded Gordon did indeed make the right choice.

NESN Fuel’s Courtney Cox headed to New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Thursday for the Vintage Racing Celebration, where she got Evernham’s thoughts on Gordon and more.
