The Major League Baseball non-waiver trade deadline didn’t mark the end of the Boston Red Sox’s maneuvering.

The Red Sox claimed catcher Bryan Holaday off waivers from the Texas Rangers on Friday, the team announced in a press release.

Holaday was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Aug. 1. He hit .238 with two home runs, 13 RBIs and a .695 OPS in 94 plate appearances over 30 games with Texas.

Holaday spent his first four seasons with the Detroit Tigers, appearing in a career-high 62 games in 2014. The 28-year-old is a .248 hitter with a .640 OPS in 376 career plate appearances.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Red Sox do regarding their catching situation, even though Holaday hardly is a world-beater. Veteran backstop Ryan Hanigan has really struggled this season, hitting just .158 with a homer, 13 RBIs and a .437 OPS in 102 plate appearances.
