The tables were turned Tuesday night at Safeco Field.
The Boston Red Sox were team coming up with dramatic comeback wins lately, but the Seattle Mariners returned the favor Tuesday thanks to Robinson Cano’s three-run home run during a five-run comeback in the eighth inning of their 5-4 victory.
Here’s how it all went down.
GAME IN A WORD
Shocking.
David Price couldn’t have pitched better through his first seven innings, but it all came apart in the eighth.
IT WAS OVER WHEN …
The bottom of the eighth inning started.
The Red Sox had a 4-0 lead, but the Mariners scored five runs in the inning.
ON THE BUMP
— For the second straight game, Price brought his A-game, although it all fell apart in the eighth inning.
Price also pitched well in his last start against the Los Angeles Angels, but he didn’t get any run support. However, Tuesday was a different story as he already had a one-run lead to work with before he took the mound. And once he did start pitching, he pitched 1-2-3 innings in the first, third, fifth and seventh innings.
Everything changed in the eighth, however, when he allowed four straight hits before being pulled from the game.
Price’s final stat line: seven-plus innings, four earned runs, seven hits, five strikeouts and zero walks.
— Matt Barnes came in and struck out the only batter he faced.
— New reliever Fernando Abad’s debut couldn’t have gone any worse, as he allowed a three-run home run to Cano.
IN THE BATTER’S BOX
— The Red Sox wasted no time giving Price run support thanks to David Ortiz’s RBI double in the first inning. Dustin Pedroia, who walked earlier in the frame, scored on the play.

— Hanley Ramirez absolutely destroyed a baseball over the scoreboard in left center field in the top of the fourth. His solo blast was estimated at 455 feet.
Aaron Hill added to the lead by driving in Jackie Bradley Jr. with an RBI single later in the frame.
— Andrew Benintendi made his major league debut in the top of the seventh when he pinch hit for Bryce Brentz. Benintendi grounded out on the second pitch he saw and took over duties in left field in the bottom of the frame. He then struck out to end the game.
— Ortiz gave Boston a 4-0 lead when he knocked in Mookie Betts with a sacrifice fly in the top of the eigth.

The Red Sox will look to get back on track Wednesday when they play Game 3 of a four-game set against the Mariners in Seattle at 10:10 p.m. ET. Rick Porcello will take the mound for Boston opposite Hisashi Iwakuma.
