The Boston Red Sox slugged their way to a series sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks with an astounding 16-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park.
Boston tallied 19 hits, highlighted by Mookie Betts’ three home runs.

The Red Sox hit four homers (Betts three, Jackie Bradley Jr. one) and the Diamondbacks hit one (Michael Bourn).
IT WAS OVER WHEN
The Red Sox crossed the plate seven times in the second inning to increase their lead to 9-0. Boston starter Rick Porcello didn’t need any more run support.
ON THE BUMP
— Porcello allowed a leadoff single, but he escaped without damage after two strikeouts and a putout. The second inning also was a breeze as the Diamondbacks were retired in order. The next inning was more of the same, as Porcello made quick work of Arizona — nine up, nine down through three innings.
The Diamondbacks got on the board in the fourth inning when Bourn homered off Porcello. The Sox starter committed an error that allowed another baserunner, but he got out of the inning without further damage thanks to a double play.
Porcello then recorded 1-2-3 fifth, sixth and seventh innings. He departed after the seventh. His final line: seven innings, one earned run, three hits, zero walks, four strikeouts.
— Roenis Elias gave up three hits and an earned run in the eighth inning. He pitched a scoreless ninth to end the game.
IN THE BATTER’S BOX
— Dustin Pedroia led off the game with a single. He also hit an RBI single in the second inning, then singled again in the third. Pedroia hit another RBI single in the fifth inning. He finished 5 for 6 with three runs and two RBIs.
— Betts got the Sox on the board with a two-run homer in the first inning. He also hit a three-run home run in the second inning. He wasn’t done, though, as he smacked a single in the fourth inning. Incredibly, Betts hit another three-run homer in the fifth inning, giving him 26 home runs on the season. It was his third home run of the game, and the second game in which he’s done that this season.
Betts finished 4 for 6 with eight RBIs.
— Hanley Ramirez hit singles in the first and second innings. He drove in a run in the fourth inning with a groundout, too. After hitting a double off the Green Monster in the fifth inning, Ramirez was taken out of the game, presumably for a rest with the Sox up 14-1.
— Aaron Hill led off the second inning with a single. It was his only hit of the game.
— Bradley hit a two-run homer in the second inning, which ended Diamondbacks starter Zack Greinke’s outing. He also had an RBI groundout in the fifth inning.
— Sandy Leon singled in the second inning to continue his hot streak. He also walked in the fifth inning. Leon went 1 for 3.
— Andrew Benintendi gave the Sox a 3-0 lead with an RBI double into right field. He also singled in the fifth inning. He went 2 for 4 with a walk, an RBI and a run
— David Ortiz singled in the fourth inning. He went 1 for 3 before getting an early rest.
