Russell Westbrook is just like you and me.
Sure, he’s a five-time All-Star, the owner of a new $85 million contract and considered the best dressed player in the NBA. But when it came to Kevin Durant’s decision to sign with the Golden State Warriors earlier this offseason, the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard didn’t have any inside information.
“I found out like ya’ll found out: on the cell phones, on social media,” Westbrook said Thursday in a press conference to announce his new deal with Oklahoma City. “I was talking to Kevin early on in the process, but nothing after. Just a text message from him. That’s about it.”
Westbrook. according to reports, wasn’t happy with Durant’s decision to leave the Thunder, which makes sense considering the duo helped Oklahoma City come within one win of the NBA Finals this past season. The Thunder still figure to be contenders, though, and Westbrook now is the guy in OKC.
