The inevitable finally has happened: Ryan Lochte reportedly has been charged with a crime following his infamous gas station incident during the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Police have charged the USA swimmer in Brazil with filing a false report after claiming he was a victim of an armed robbery, according to The Associated Press.

If Lochte is convicted, TMZ Sports reports he could face up to six months in jail.

However, there still are plenty of logistics to iron out since Lochte is back in the United States. Word came down earlier Thursday that Lochte would be summoned back to Brazil, but sources told TMZ Sports that he wouldn’t return to Rio.
