UPDATE (11:15 p.m. ET): The Vikings released an official statement regarding quarterback Teddy Bridgewater’s knee injury. It’s bad news for Bridgewater and the Vikings, who will be without their budding star QB for the 2016 season.

The statement from Vikings head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman:

Teddy Bridgewater suffered a non-contact injury today at practice. The injury was quickly identified as a dislocated knee. The injury was stabilized, and he was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation. After undergoing an MRI, it was determined that Teddy suffered a complete tear to his ACL and other structural damage. Fortunately, there appears to be no nerve or arterial damage. Surgical repair will be scheduled within the next few days. Although the recovery time will be significant, we expect Teddy to make a full recovery. I would like to thank all of the medical professionals and our athletic training staff for all of their help today. Teddy has already displayed the attitude needed to overcome this injury and attack his rehab.

Original Story (3:24 p.m. ET): The Minnesota Vikings’ chances of winning Super Bowl 51 might have just been ruined before the regular season even begins.

Starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered a potentially serious injury at practice Tuesday, although the exact injury and its severity are unknown at this time.

We do know that it was a non-contract injury and that he was holding his left knee in pain. An ambulance arrived to take him away.

The Vikings clearly are shaken by the events.

The Vikings now might look to add a quarterback before the season begins. Shaun Hill and Joel Stave are the two other QBs currently on the roster.
