The end of days might be near as the unthinkable happened Tuesday night: An umpire was cheered in Philadelphia.
The notoriously vicious Philly faithful gave home plate umpire Bob Davidson a nice ovation after the veteran umpire tossed a supposedly unruly fan from the game.
In the sixth inning, Davidson walked toward the visiting dugout of the San Francisco Giants, as everyone assumed he had a bone to pick with the Giants. Instead, he gave a fan sitting behind the dugout the old heave-ho, much to the delight of fans seated near the fan.

Pretty wild. And we don’t claim to be expert lip readers, but it sure looks like Davidson had some not-so-pleasant things to say about the fan as the umpire walked back to home plate, appearing to call him an unsavory name in the process.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Davidson told a pool reporter that he ejected the fan for repeatedly yelling sexual innuendo and telling the Giants they “suck.”
“That’s when I turned around and said ‘You know what, get rid of this guy,'” Davidson said, per the Inquirer. “You could have your wife, girlfriend, kids — they buy tickets. They don’t have to come here and listen to that.
“And people cheered me. Which is unusual in this town for me.”
That might be the case, but ejecting fans isn’t totally unusual for Davidson. He actually did the same thing to a fan in Milwaukee back in 2010.
So, yeah. Bob Davidson enjoys throwing people out of games and was even suspended back in 2012 for “repeated violations of the Office of the Commissioner’s standards for situation handling.”
