We haven’t heard a public apology from Ryan Lochte or the other three USA swimmers yet for their involvement in the robbery/vandalism situation that has taken the Rio Olympics by storm, but the United States Olympic Committee CEO did Thursday night.
USOC CEO Scott Blackmun released the following statement, which included further details on the “distracting ordeal,” as well as an apology to Brazil.
USA Swimming followed suit with its own statement on the incident involving Lochte, Jimmy Feigen, Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning when the four swimmers returned from a party. Their original story involved an armed robbery by people wearing police uniforms. However, the Rio police presented a very different version of events, which instead involved vandalism at a local gas station.
Lochte is back in the United States, but he could still face serious charges, along with Feigen for allegedly falsifying a crime report.
