You’ve heard the stories, shed a tear (or several) and picked up the phone to give a gift during the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon. You saw that your gift was part of a colossal total tally at the end of Day 2.
So, what happens now?
Well, The Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute keep on rolling for the other 363 days of the year when they aren’t on NESN and WEEI’s airwaves, and the researchers employed by the companies get money for awesome initiatives like vice president Joe Biden’s Cancer Moonshot, which aims to make cancer treatments more accessible and affordable for everyone who needs them.
Dr. George Demetri, the director at the Center for Sarcoma and Bone Oncology at Dana-Farber, joined NESN’s Tom Caron on “Red Sox Gameday Live” to talk about some of the places that money goes to and how it helps make a difference in the fight to end cancer.
