Cam Newton’s lucky to still have his teeth after being brutalized Thursday night during the Carolina Panthers’ 21-20 season-opening loss to the Denver Broncos, but there was a point in the third quarter when the Pro Bowl quarterback felt the need to address a pressing dental situation.

Newton was spotted flossing his teeth on the sideline with the Panthers leading 17-7. When asked after the game about what could only be described as “FlossGate,” Newton offered a very simple explanation.

“I was eating oranges at halftime,” Newton told reporters.

Simple enough.

If you have teeth, you know how annoying it can be to get food stuck in them. So really, who can blame the guy?
