Can CM Punk Learn MMA In UFC? Dana White Has Doubts After Mickey Gall Fight

CM Punk probably should spend some time at the School of Hard Knocks before he takes any more in UFC.

That’s the opinion UFC president Dana White held Saturday in the aftermath of Punk’s loss to Mickey Gall at UFC 203. White told Fight Network’s John Pollock that Punk might want to consider honing his skills in a less competitive MMA circuit before he returns to the UFC octagon.

“He probably shouldn’t have his next fight in the UFC,” White said. “Just like I said with Brock (Lesnar), having your first fight in the UFC is tough and you (saw Saturday), even if it’s against a guy who is 2-0. This is a tough place to learn.”

Gall defeated Punk in the first round via submission. The result and Punk’s performance let down many whose excitement over the former WWE champion’s foray into UFC built over the last 18-plus months.

Punk hasn’t announced his next move. But having given Punk his “shot,” White might have just announced it for him.
