Chandler Catanzaro Shanks Field-Goal Try To Seal Patriots’ Win Over Cardinals

Chandler Catanzaro had the chance to clinch a win for the Arizona Cardinals in Sunday night’s season opener.

Instead, his 47-yard attempt sailed wide left, allowing the New England Patriots to escape University of Phoenix Stadium with a 23-21 victory.

Catanzaro didn’t receive much help from long snapper Kameron Canaday on the play, as a low snap appeared to throw off the 25-year-old kicker’s timing.

The Patriots would have received the ball back with close to 40 seconds remaining had Catanzaro made his kick, but they would have been forced to operate without any timeouts after coach Bill Belichick used all three on Arizona’s final offensive possession.

Catanzaro’s miss pushed New England to 1-0 on the young season and into sole possession of first place in the AFC East, as the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins all dropped their respective season openers earlier Sunday.
