It’s been an unusual season for Clay Buchholz, but he still can help the Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees on Friday night in a game with plenty of postseason ramifications.

The right-hander has split his time between the bullpen and starting rotation all season, and while he’s struggled at times, his numbers of late — a 2-1 record and a 4.30 ERA in his last eight outings (five starts) — show some signs of improvement.

Hear what NESN’s Dave O’Brien and Jerry Remy had to say about Buchholz in the video from “Red Sox Gameday Live” above.
