Dale Earnhardt Jr. won’t be in a NASCAR car for the rest of the season, but he’s still a busy man.

Earnhardt is spending his downtime recovering from concussion-like symptoms after a crash earlier this year. But when he’s out of the doctor’s control, he’s still good ol’ Dale, catching concerts when he can and being a good uncle.

Earnhardt has provided fans with regular updates on his recovery since he stepped out of the car before the New Hampshire 301 in July. He noted in August that his biggest problem was what his doctors called “gazed stability,” meaning he was having trouble with his vision and balance.

Earnhardt has been wearing glasses to help with those issues, and said Monday on his weekly podcast he has seen great improvement. He said the only thing that has triggered his symptoms as of late is going to busy places, with a lot of people talking.

With that in mind, maybe a music concert isn’t the best place for him.

Despite this, Earnhardt said he attended a Lord Huron concert in Milwaukee, and although you might think the most popular NASCAR driver being in the crowd might cause a stir, that wasn’t so.

“(The Lord Huron concert) was interesting,” Earnhardt said in his “Dale Jr Download” podcast. “I was like four people back from the stage and nobody recognized me. It was a lot of visual stimulation and a lot of noise.”

Earnhardt said he’s getting closer to being a “normal functioning human being” again. The sooner his condition improves, the sooner he can get back to being a NASCAR driver.
