David Ortiz seems to feel right at home at Tropicana Field.
The Boston Red Sox slugger entered Friday’s game against Tampa Bay with 34 career home runs at the Rays’ home stadium — his second most at all ballparks outside Fenway and the most of any opposing player — and he made it 35 in the very first inning. Ortiz took Rays starter Chris Archer very, very deep with Xander Bogaerts on first to give the Red Sox a 2-0 lead to start things off.
The home run was Ortiz’s 37th on the season and the 540th of his career. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, though, as Ortiz was batting .378 with a .730 slugging percentage against Archer heading into Friday’s game.
