Fantasy Football Week 3 Mailbag: Need A New Running Back? Join The Club

You know what they say: “Watch out for Week 2 of the fantasy football season — it’s a doozy!”

Last week was brutal. To the questions!

Tyler Lockett or Victor Cruz? I know neither is a great option, I get it but it is what it is! I have a feeling Cruz will have a good game but Wilson is due to come around and have one of those games so I’m leaning towards Lockett. Help!!!
— Troy, Facebook

The Seattle Seahawks can’t score right now, Russell Wilson’s ankle looks worse than he’s letting on, and Lockett left with an injury against the Los Angeles Rams. Go with Victor Cruz, who faces a Washington Redskins defense that can’t stop a nosebleed.

@NESN Need a replacement for Danny Woodhead…who do you think fits?

@NESN need a RB/ solid flex this wk. Woodhead & J-stew down for me.

Here are a few of the running backs we’re looking at for all of you searching for Adrian Peterson, Danny Woodhead, Thomas Rawls and/or Jonathan Stewart replacements:

— Jerick McKinnon is a better back than Matt Asiata, but they’ll probably split reps. Asiata could vulture goal-line carries. Ultimately, we think McKinnon will be way more productive.
— Isaiah Crowell somehow is available in almost 30 percent of leagues. Hue Jackson’s Browns will run. A lot.
— Charles Sims is available in about 35 percent and could start over the injured Doug Martin in Tampa Bay this week.
— Theo Riddick is still out there in 20 percent.
— Tevin Coleman, who has looked way better than Devonta Freeman in Atlanta, is available in roughly 35 percent of leagues.
— Christine Michael would get the carries in Seattle for Rawls.
— Cameron Artis-Payne is probably the guy in Carolina, despite Fozzy Whitaker’s performance.
— Shane Vereen is out there and could be a decent PPR add.

Is Gary Barnidge worth holding onto or do you feel the TE market has someone worth replacing him with?
— Dean, Facebook

Don’t drop him yet, but bench him and look for Dennis Pitta, Jesse James or Kyle Rudolph. We like them in that order for now.

@NESN can only play one this week: Stefon Diggs or Tajae Sharpe?
— @Brittany22870, Twitter

Diggs was great with Shaun Hill and excellent with Sam Bradford. He could make the Pro Bowl this year. Diggs all the way.

@NESN gurley, ware, lacy, langford… Whos he odd man or men out with a stronf wr corp?
— @KRAMEK86

Todd Gurley, Spencer Ware, Jeremy Langford, Eddie Lacy. In that order.

If brissett gets hurts and edelman is the qb. Do i still get points for him as a wide receiver? — Cody, Facebook
You should, but some formats or websites might not count it. If that’s the case and Edelman somehow ends up playing quarterback, petition to your commissioner for the points. If your commissioner doesn’t allow it, start a coup, gather support from league members and revolt against him or her by voting them out of office. We can’t have silliness like that in our beloved game.
