After picking up his third win of the season at the BMW Championship two weeks ago, Dustin Johnson can claim this year’s FedExCup crown at this week’s Tour Championship as a strong +450 betting favorite at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Johnson earned his second career BMW Championship title after taking an early lead with a second-round 63, and he has finished in the top 10 on 14 occasions this year heading into this weekend’s Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta.
Sitting second in the World Golf Ranking, Johnson leads the FedExCup standings heading into the final tournament of the season over Patrick Reed, Adam Scott, Jason Day and Paul Casey. But it is Rory McIlroy who represents Johnson’s closest competition on the Tour Championship odds, listed at +600.
McIlroy moved into FedExCup contention with a big win at the Deutsche Bank Championship three weeks ago, coming from behind with a final-round 65 to seal the victory. However, the world’s No. 3-ranked golfer faltered at the BMW Championship, going 1 over during the final three rounds to finish in a distant tie for 42nd place.
Day rounds out the front of the pack on the golf betting lines, sitting alongside Jordan Spieth at +800. The world’s top-ranked golfer was forced to withdraw in the final round of the BMW Championship because of a back injury, but with three wins on the tour this year, the Australian remains a legitimate threat to claim the FedExCup title.
Spieth has struggled since his meltdown in the final round of the Masters earlier this year, but he shot a solid 7 under during the final two rounds at the BMW Championship and looks ready to defend his victory at last year’s TOUR Championship.
Scott follows at +1000. The 2006 Tour Championship winner has two tournament wins this year and has finished fourth in each of his past four events. Casey finished second at the BMW Championship, three strokes behind Johnson, and sports +1400 odds, just ahead of Reed, who is listed at +1600.
Hideki Matsuyama leads the best of the rest with +2500 odds at the sportsbooks, followed by Phil Mickelson at +3000, while four golfers sit deadlocked at +3300, including Bubba Watson, JB Holmes, Jimmy Walker and Matt Kuchar.
