The Carolina Panthers had one last chance to leave the NFL Kickoff game with revenge after their Super Bowl 50 loss to the Denver Broncos, but a brutal helmet-to-helmet hit and a missed field goal got in the way.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was the subject of multiple dirty hits by the Broncos, but the worst came on the final drive when he was hit in the head by Darian Stewart on this helmet-to-helmet hit:

Normally that would have resulted in a personal foul, and it did in this situation, although it was wiped out by an intentional grounding call on Newton.

Newton stayed in the game and manged to get Carolina into field-goal range, but the old icing the kicker trick worked as Graham Gano missed the one that counted to seal the 21-20 win for Denver.
