Home plate at Rogers Centre temporarily turned into a launching pad Sunday, as the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays engaged in an old-fashioned slugfest.
Playing a central role was Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion, who clubbed two homers in his first three at-bats, including a fourth-inning blast that went a very, very long way off Red Sox reliever Heath Hembree.

MLB.com’s Statcast pegged Encarnacion’s two-run homer, his 39th of the season, at an estimated 440 feet. Tough to top, right? Don’t tell that to Hanley Ramirez.
Just one inning later, the Red Sox first baseman took Jays pitcher Joe Biagini deep with a frozen rope to dead center field.
The estimated distance on Ramirez’s 23rd homer of the season: 444 feet, or four feet longer than Encarnacion’s blast.
