FOXBORO, Mass. — Jimmy Garoppolo didn’t get a big head after his big Week 1 win. The other Garoppolo boys made sure of that.
The New England Patriots quarterback said Wednesday he received a few “humbling texts” from his three brothers after leading the New England Patriots to a 23-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday night.
Garoppolo wouldn’t reveal the content of those texts, but it’s safe to assume there was some good-natured ribbing involved.
“You ever grow up with three brothers?” he said with a smile. “No, they were supportive, too. They’re the best.”
Garoppolo said he watched film of the Arizona game during the team’s flight home Sunday night, then immediately shifted his focus toward the Patriots’ next opponent, the Miami Dolphins, who visit Gillette Stadium this Sunday afternoon.
“Sunday’s over with,” the third-year pro said. “We’re already into the Dolphins. We’ve been into the Dolphins for the last couple of days now, so it’s a new challenge and it’s a new week. That’s the season for you.”
Outside of the preseason, Garoppolo never has started a game at Gillette, and he hasn’t thrown a pass on the Patriots’ home field since Dec. 28, 2014. He’s expected to start each of the next three contests — all home games — before handing the reins back to the currently suspended Tom Brady in Week 5.
“It’s going to be exciting,” said Garoppolo, who threw for 264 yards and one touchdown against the Cardinals. “Real exciting. It’s another good opportunity just have to go out there and perform.”
