Is it time for The Big Ticket to punch in as an NBA coach?
Kevin Garnett retired last week after a successful 21-year career, and Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue already has extended an invitation for KG to join Cleveland’s coaching staff.
“I talked to him about it,” Lue said after Cavs practice Thursday, according to ESPN.com. “I know his wife is pushing for it a lot. Brandi is pushing for it, trying to get him to come and coach. He says he’s not ready yet. He goes back — ‘I might do it’ — but he’s back and forth. We’ll see. But I’d definitely make a spot for him if he wanted to come back and coach.”
Lue was an assistant coach under Doc Rivers when Garnett played for the Boston Celtics, and he considers the 15-time NBA All-Star to be one of his closest friends. So it’s unsurprising that Lue’s willing to offer him a coaching gig, though he could have some competition for Garnett’s services. Rivers already is considering ways to have Garnett join the Clippers’ staff.
“I’m going to offer him something,” Rivers said, per ESPN.com. “I don’t want to say too much right now. I just know he’d be a great asset to any team.”
