Lady Gaga’s rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl 50 was an all-time great performance, and it appears she might be in the running for an encore of sorts at Super Bowl LI.
The pop star “is in talks” to perform during the Super Bowl halftime show next February at Houston’s NRG Stadium, sources told Billboard on Tuesday. Billboard added that one of the main reasons why the NFL is interested in Lady Gaga is her stunning performance of the national anthem.
The NFL, however, didn’t tip its hand in a statement to Billboard.
“We have had conversations with several fantastic artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, at this point we do not have a final decision,” an unnamed NFL rep said. “We’re happy there is so much excitement about the show.”
There were plenty of rumors earlier this summer that Adele would be the star of the halftime show, but she told an audience at one of her shows that she turned the NFL down, although the league said it never formally offered her the slot.
But that might not be the case for Lady Gaga, if this news doesn’t have any poker faces behind it.
