Sept. 11, 2001 was one of the most tragic days in American history, but the impact of the terrorist attacks on that day also were felt around the world.
Sunday marked the 15th anniversary of 9/11, so three-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton visited the National September 11 Memorial & Museum to pay his respects to those killed in the attacks.
Even though he is from the U.K., Hamilton spends much of his time away from F1 in the states.

The events on 9/11 resulted in a death toll of 2,996 people, making it the deadliest foreign attack on U.S. soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor, and the worst terrorist attack in the world to date. As a result, even people like Hamilton, who isn’t American, likely remember where they were and what they were doing when the Twin Towers fell.
For anybody who hasn’t yet visited the memorial at Ground Zero, it’s a truly humbling experience, and definitely worth the trip.
