MLB Postseason Picture: Wild-Card Races Coming Down To Wire In Both Leagues

The official Major League Baseball postseason picture didn’t change Thursday, although there still were a couple of notable developments.

The Texas Rangers now have a two-game lead over the Boston Red Sox for the No. 1 seed in the American League, and the Cleveland Indians only are a 1/2 game behind the Sox for the No. 2 seed. The Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles also are tied in the wild-card standings, and only the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners can catch them.

On the National League side, the top three seeds — Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers, respectively — remained the same. The wild-card race, though, is pretty tight between the San Francisco Giants, New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals, and Thursday’s late game between the Giants and Colorado Rockies could shake things up.
