NFL SuperContest Picks: Week 4 Locks Include Patriots, Cardinals, Vikings
Trying to get a read on this NFL season has been next to impossible, and it didn’t get any easier in Week 3.
Another unpredictable weekend has NESN.com’s Mike Cole and Ricky Doyle once again licking their wounds after a miserable 1-4 weekend in the NFL SuperContest.
They’re looking to finally right the ship as they represent Team NESN as part of Team OddsShark in the sports gambling world’s premier football prediction contest.
They don’t even want to look at the OddsShark standings, but that doesn’t stop you from taking a peek and then making fun of them.
Here are their Week 4 picks.
New England Patriots (-5.5) vs. Buffalo Bills, Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, Mass.
Not going to try and overthink it here. While there are obvious questions about the Patriots’ quarterback situation, we think Jimmy Garoppolo will be out there when it’s all said and done. If the Bills are going to win, it will be because the Patriots play sloppy, and that’s just hard to envision, so we’ll take New England to win by a touchdown.
Houston Texans (-5) vs. Tennessee Titans, Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
NRG Stadium, Houston
The J.J. Watt injury eventually will hurt the Texans, but it’s hard to see that happening this week against a Tennessee offense that hasn’t been able to generate much offense. The Texans were embarrassed last week in New England and will want to get back on track against a division opponent. Bill Belichick made them look silly last week, but we’re not expecting Titans coach Mike Mularkey to do the same this week, especially with the Texans getting the added benefit of an extended week.
Oakland Raiders (+3) vs. Baltimore Ravens, Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore
The Ravens are 3-0, which obviously looks good, but beating Buffalo, Cleveland and Jacksonville by a combined 13 points isn’t terribly impressive. Oakland’s defense started to come around last week against Tennessee, and even if this is a low-scoring affair, we like the Raiders to keep it close.
Arizona Cardinals (-8) vs. Los Angeles Rams, Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET
University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, Ariz.
We don’t think the Cardinals are as bad as they showed last week (getting pasted in Buffalo), and we also don’t think the Rams are as good as they looked last week (beating Tampa Bay on the road). This feels like a good opportunity for the Cardinals to get back on track, and it also feels like maybe last week forced this line to be a smaller than maybe it should be.
Minnesota Vikings (-4.5) vs. New York Giants, Monday, 8:30 p.m. ET
U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis
It’s becoming hard to bet against Mike Zimmer and that Minnesota defense. Two of the Vikings’ three wins came against Green Bay and Carolina, two playoff teams from a year ago and two teams with very good offenses. The Giants also head to Minnesota with a banged-up secondary, which could be an issue as the Vikings have an underrated receiver group. Oh, and that new stadium is going to be rocking for the first Monday night game in the new building.
