Patriots’ Record As Underdogs In Bill Belichick Era Will Blow You Away

Sometimes bad news is good news.

The New England Patriots opened as 2 1/2-point home underdogs against the Houston Texans for their Week 3 “Thursday Night Football” matchup at Gillette Stadium, according to Oddsshark. Sounds like bad news for the Patriots, right? Not quite. Since Bill Belichick took over as head coach in 2000, New England has been pretty darn successful when entering a game as an underdog.

The Patriots’ numbers as home underdogs are even more impressive.

Those numbers seem to suggest you never should bet against the Patriots, but bettors still be wary of this week’s matchup with Houston. The Patriots potentially could have just one active quarterback on their roster Thursday night, and they also could be without Rob Gronkowski, their most dynamic offensive weapon.

The team might be forced to start rookie third-round pick Jacoby Brissett and reportedly has been preparing wide receiver Julian Edelman as his emergency backup, none of which bodes well against an elite Texans defense.

Still, it appears there are three things you can count on in life: death, taxes and Belichick’s Patriots covering the spread.
