David Ortiz won’t be leaving Boston without a heartfelt goodbye.

The Red Sox announced Monday that they’ll celebrate their retiring star during theĀ final weekend of the regular season, which is a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park beginning Friday, Sept. 30. During all of those games, the Red Sox will wear patches on their caps and jerseys to honor Ortiz.

All fans at the final game on Sunday, Oct. 2, will receive commemorative patches for Ortiz, too.

NESN will air specials on Ortizā€™s career, beginning with ā€œDavid Ortiz: The Journeyā€ on Friday, Sept. 16. The second documentary, ā€œThe David Ortiz Era,ā€ will air Wednesday, Sept. 28. Both shows will run immediately after the end of the Red Sox games airing that night.

The NESN documentaries also will be screened at Fenway on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. at the GlobeDocs Documentary Film Festival during HubWeek.
