Russell Wilson Injury: Fantasy Implications Of Seahawks QB’s Ankle Issue

The Seattle Seahawks barely survived an upset loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 1 by completing a late fourth-quarter comeback led by quarterback Russell Wilson.

Wilson, however, might not be available in Week 2 when the Seahawks take on a Los Angeles Rams team that beat them twice last season.

Wilson injured the ankle when Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh accidentally stepped on him in the second half. The injury seemed to limit the quarterback’s mobility the rest of the game.

The former Super Bowl winner was among the first quarterbacks selected in most fantasy drafts after he set career highs in passing yards and touchdowns last season. Losing him for any amount of time would be a huge setback for fantasy owners.

The safe play for your fantasy team would be to find a different option at quarterback in Week 2, even if Wilson is active. The Rams have a talented front seven on defense and are capable of getting to the quarterback without blitzing a ton, much like the Dolphins.

Wilson averaged about 270 passing yards with a total of three touchdowns, two interceptions and a QBR of about 50 in two games against the Rams last season.

His limited mobility because of the ankle also hurts his value because he consistently provides fantasy scoring with his legs on designed runs and when escaping the pocket.

Joe Flacco of the Baltimore Ravens, Carson Wentz of the Philadelphia Eagles and Jimmy Garoppolo of the New England Patriots would be good short-term options on the waiver wire or trade market for Wilson owners in Week 2.
