While the Boston Bruins shined in the World Cup of Hockey, they didn’t exactly enjoy the greatest start to the 2016-17 season in their first two preseason games.

But they got win No. 1 under their belts Friday thanks to Ryan Spooner.

Spooner scored the game-winning goal at the :34 mark in overtime to lift Boston to a 2-1 road victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

The Bruins, who lost to the Red Wings in Boston on Wednesday, trailed early after Riley Sheahan’s first-period goal, but Danton Heinen evened the score and forced overtime with a nice second effort at 12:31 in the third frame.

Anton Khudobin got the start in net for the B’s and saved 34 of the 35 shots he faced.

Boston will be back in action Saturday night with a preseason game in Philadelphia against the Flyers.
