Word came down Thursday that Major League Baseball suspended San Diego Padres general manager A.J. Preller for 30 days following an investigation into the team’s Drew Pomeranz trade with the Boston Red Sox. The suspension was a result of Preller and the Padres not giving the Red Sox complete medical records.

On Friday, Red Sox chairman Tom Werner reacted to the news in an interview with NESN’s Tom Caron on “Red Sox First Pitch,” and you can read a portion of what he had to say below.

“I think it’s fair to say… that we were extremely disappointed in the decision,” Werner said. “We feel that some wrong was committed and it’s important to have a level playing field, and the Padres didn’t play on it.”
