Tyson Fury could be stripped of his world heavyweight titles.
Fury, who recently pulled out of an Oct. 29 rematch with Wladimir Klitschko, has been notified that he tested positive for cocaine, according to ESPN.com.
Fury, 28, pulled out of his scheduled fight against Klitschko on Sept. 23, with his promoter saying only that the champ was “medically unfit.” Well, according to ESPN.com, Fury submitted to a random urine test on Sept. 22 in Lancaster, England, and the results of that test came back positive for the substance benzoylecgonine, which is the central compound found in cocaine and the marker for a positive test for the banned substance.
The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association oversaw the drug testing for the Fury-Klitschko rematch. It also was in charge of testing for performance-enhancing drugs, but that testing is done separately and takes longer, per ESPN.com, so those results aren’t yet available.
Either way, this is some bad news for Fury, who was scheduled to face Klitschko in front of his own hometown fans at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.
