Jimmy Garoppolo’s first drive as an NFL starter ended with a touchdown pass.

After throwing high to wide receiver Chris Hogan on his first pass attempt Sunday night, the New England Patriots’ interim starting quarterback began to find his groove.

Garoppolo completed three consecutive passes to Julian Edelman, then lofted a 37-yard strike to a wide-open Hogan, who was able to waltz into the end zone after leaving Arizona Cardinals rookie cornerback Brandon Williams in the dust.

The touchdown gave the Patriots an early 7-0 lead in their season opener.

It was the second career touchdown pass for Garoppolo, who was starting in place of the suspended Tom Brady, and Hogan’s first score in a Patriots uniform.
