Wilmer Flores had three hits Monday, but the New York Mets infielder had a forgetful day on the basepaths, being thrown out three times while trying to be a little too aggressive.
You could say it wasn’t his day … or week, or month or even his year.
That’s a rather roundabout “Friends” joke, which Flores surely would appreciate, given his newfound obsession with the 1990s TV sitcom. “Friends” is one of the most popular shows of all time, and it continues to gain popularity even 12 years after its final episode.
Flores’ love for the show actually has gone so far that he’s now using its wildly popular theme song as his walk-up music when he comes to the plate for home games at Citi Field.
Flores’ obsession with the show is more than just a random Netflix binge, too. The Venezuelan credits it for helping him learn English.
“I just can’t stop watching (“Friends”),” Flores told reporters after the game, per ESPN.com. “I don’t know — on the road, when I’m home, every day — I don’t want to watch anything else. I don’t know why. There’s something about that show.”
Flores is having another nice season even after last year’s trade debacle, so apparently he’s had plenty of, well, friends. Or maybe we can thank the show for that, too.
