The Arizona Diamondbacks made noise last offseason, but it didn’t translate into wins. As such, the organization is making some changes.
The D-Backs began cleaning house Monday by firing general manager Dave Stewart and manager Chip Hale. It’s unclear whether the Snakes plan to retain chief baseball officer Tony La Russa.
Stewart was hired as Arizona’s GM in September 2014. He made some splashy moves, including signing Zack Greinke to a six-year, $206.5 million contract and trading former No. 1 overall pick Dansby Swanson to the Atlanta Braves in a deal for pitcher Shelby Miller. But his boldness didn’t pay off, as the D-Backs finished this season in fourth place in the National League West with a 69-93 record.
Hale became the Diamondbacks’ manager before the 2015 season. It was his first managerial gig and the club went 148-176 under his guidance.
