Eric Decker was catching touchdowns at an incredible rate last season. What he seemingly can’t catch, though, is a break.

The New York Jets wide receiver injured his shoulder in a Sept. 15 game against the Buffalo Bills and then reaggravated the injury 10 days later against the Kansas City Chiefs. That ailment, a torn right rotator cuff, ultimately landed him on injured reserve last week.

Decker had surgery Tuesday afternoon just days after landing on IR — except the surgery was on his hip. It seems Decker also had an underlying injury serious enough that it needed surgery that he had been playing through.

Tuesday’s surgery was to repair “a labral tear and lesion in his left hip,” a source told Newsday’s Kimberly A. Martin. He’s expected to miss six months recovering from the hip procedure, but once he’s off crutches he’ll have surgery on the shoulder, which has an eight month recovery time.

Talk about a bad hit.

Martin added that it’s unlikely Decker will miss 14 months of action, but his availability for the beginning of the 2017 season appears to at least be in question, if not altogether in doubt.
