The world works in mysterious ways.
The 2016 World Series features two teams with a bit of a cursed history. The Chicago Cubs hadn’t made the World Series since 1945 before clinching a berth over the weekend, and they haven’t won the Fall Classic since 1908. The Cleveland Indians hadn’t been to the World Series since they lost to the Florida Marlins in 1997 and haven’t won since 1948. The city also was in a 54-year championship drought across all sports until the Cavaliers won the NBA Finals in June.
So, is it a coincidence the Cubs and Indians will face each other this year for the right to raise The Commissioner’s Trophy? Maybe. But there might be a higher power at play.
We’ll let you decide what to make of this, but it seems Jose Fernandez, who tragically died at age 24 last month, might have gotten one final call in his favor.
