More sad details are emerging from the fatal September boat crash that took the life of Jose Fernandez and two others.

Fernandez’s toxicology report, made public in his autopsy via the Miami Herald’s David Ovalle, revealed the Miami Marlins pitcher had cocaine in his system and also had a blood-alcohol concentration level of nearly twice the legal limit when his boat hit a South Beach jetty early in the morning of Sept. 25.

The report shows Fernandez had a BAC level of .147 (the legal limit is .08) and also detected traces of cocaine and other cutting agents used to make the drug in his system.

This news appears to confirm reports earlier this week that Fernandez and his friends had a strong smell of alcohol on them at the time of the fatal crash, which occurred at approximately 3 a.m. ET. According to the Miami Herald, Fernandez’s two friends, Emilio Jesus Macias, 27, and Eduardo Rivero, 25, had alcohol in their systems but were under the legal limit at the time of their deaths.

Reports have yet to indicate who was piloting the boat, which was owned by Fernandez.
