The Toronto Blue Jays won their 2016 war with the Texas Rangers.
The Blue Jays defeated the Rangers in 10 innings in Game 3 of the teams’ American League Division Series on Sunday night at Rogers Centre to complete a sweep and punch their ticket to the AL Championship Series.
Toronto walked off with the victory Sunday after Texas second baseman Rougned Odor committed a throwing error while trying to complete a double play, allowing Josh Donaldson to race around from second base with the winning run.
Donaldson led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a double. Rangers reliever Matt Bush then intentionally walked Edwin Encarnacion and struck out Jose Bautista, bringing up Russell Martin with runners at first and second with one out.
Martin hit a sharp ground ball into the hole that Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus snagged and tossed to Odor at second base for an out. Odor’s throw to first base landed in the dirt, though. By the time first baseman Mitch Moreland could pick up the ball and throw it home, it was too late. Donaldson dived across the plate with the winning run.
Odor, of course, is the guy who punched Bautista in the face back in May, leading to a bench-clearing brawl between the teams, so this victory must feel extra sweet for the Jays.
