The Chicago Cubs bandwagon is getting pretty full these days, and you can add their crosstown rival’s owner to the passenger manifest.
Jerry Reinsdorf, the owner of the Chicago White Sox, hasn’t been shy about his support for the Cubs and their pursuit of the franchise’s first World Series Championship since 1908.
“I think it would be great for Chicago if the Cubs won!” Reinsdorf told The Chicago Sun-Times’ Michael Sneed. “Cubs fans have suffered enough. They deserve to have a winner. It would be great for the city.”
To Reinsdorf’s credit, he knows those statements may not go over well.
“My White Sox fans won’t be happy with me saying this. They’ll think I’m a traitor. But that’s how I feel.”
Reinsdorf’s support for the Cubs could be attributed to the fact that they’re playing the Cleveland Indians, a divisional rival of the White Sox. Or it could have something to do with the White Sox having ended their own 87-year championship drought when they won the World Series in 2005, a fact that some people apparently forget:
